Welcome to Orange Grove Horse & Pony Club Inc.
The Pony Club movement came into being in England in 1929 to encourage young people in their riding. Due to the popularity of this activity, it is now represented in the no less than 25 countries.
In Western Australia the first Pony Club was formed in 1959.
All clubs are affiliated with the Pony Club Association of Western Australia (Pony Club WA)
Orange Grove Horse & Pony Club became affiliated with Pony Club WA in 1971.
Western Australian Pony Clubs are divided into 13 Zones: Avon, Central, Eastern, Great Southern, Hills, Metropolitan, Midlands, Northern, North West, South West, West Coastal & the newly formed Swan Zone. Orange Grove is a part of the Metropolitan Zone.
In 1974 Ken Foster was the 1st member of our Pony Club to be awarded a “Pony Club WA Citizenship Award" (Formerly known as Vetsearch International and Shell Award) This is the highest award to be given in the Pony Club Association. It is given out for outstanding service to your Pony Club. Other recipients from our club to receive this award are; Patricia Cox 1975, Danny Broughton 1976, Greg Johnson 1977, Julie Platt 1978, Richelle McKean 1987, Tanya Gallon 1989, Mathew Hemy 1990, Shane Newling 1993, Maryanne Payne 1998, Meagan Taylor 2008. Angela Whelan 2017
and Dana Greenwood 2018.
Clayton Fredericks, who is regarded as one of the world's leading event riders, was a member at Orange Grove Horse and Pony Club for 8 years in the late 1970s. Clayton has represented Australia at both the Olympic Games and the World Equestrian Games in the discipline of eventing. Clayton's father was also involved in the first instalment of the lights on our show jump arena and later became the President.
Our club has also had three of our members represent Australia in the International Prince Philip Games. Julia Nemeth in 1992 & Michelle Brown and Stevie Worboys in 2008.
In more recent times Michelle Brown represented Western Australia in Queensland for the National Prince Philip Games in 2004.
Ashlee Vesperman and Dan Foster represented Western Australia in Perth for the 2005 National Prince Philip Games.
2013 saw three of our riders in the Western Australian Prince Phillip teams for the Pony Club National Championship.
They were Elizabeth Craine, Dana Greenwood and Shara Langley, with Life Member Dan Foster as National Coach of the Junior PPMG Team.
Ebony Johnson was selected to represent Western Australian in the Junior PPMG Team at Nationals in both 2018 and 2019.
Orange Grove conducts rallies through out the year teaching the Pony Club WA syllabus to achieve recognised Pony Club WA certificate levels.
